Roy Hodgson's position as Liverpool boss is looking shaky with his relationship with fans rapidly deteriorating.
According to reports in the Guardian, the club's American ownership are growing tired of the poor performances under the Englishman, and what compounds matters is a growing rift in the relationship between the fans and Hodgson.Owners John W Henry and Tom Werner are understood to be concerned by recent fan polls that indicate their disillusionment with Hodgson. In fact, in a poll on the Liverpool website The Empire of the Kop, 95.5% of respondents answered yes to the question: "Do you want Roy Hodgson to be fired today?"
The club's most recent defeat to Wolves does not help matters, but Liverpool's hierarchy are caught between a rock and a hard place, given that they are not keen to hire an interim manager.
There have been fans calling for the return of club legend Kenny Dalglish to the helm, but the club is aware that he has not been in top-level management for some time and would not the the most suitable long-term candidate for the job.
Several managers have already been linked with the top job at Anfield, with former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard one of the top favourites to land the position.
However, Hodgson insists that his position is secure, saying: "I am lucky in that the support I have had has been from the players and from within the club".
"I haven't had a lot of support from the fans since I have been here. The fans have not been happy with what they have seen in the whole of 2010 and since I have come here we haven't won enough games to keep them happy.
"That is the way of football. When you take on any job, especially a big job like this, and results do not go the way you want, especially at home, you are going to be a target for disapproval."
With pressure mounting at Anfield from both above and within, it may not be long before the Liverpool hierarchy decide to replace him in order to placate their unhappy fans.
